How to choose the right paint for walls?

Renovating your home is an exciting process! And it is surprising the change we can achieve with just a new coat of paint. However, do you know which house paint to choose? The truth is that there are different types and, in this publication we tell you what they are and which one you should choose according to your type of wall, take note!

Types of house paint and which one to choose

Paints are classified according to their components. Choosing the right one will depend on different factors; For example, if we want to paint an interior or exterior wall, as well as whether we want it to be moisture resistant or not, among other aspects. Here are the six types of paint most used on walls.

1. Base paint

This type of paint is used to pre-treat the wall before using the paint of the color we have chosen. The benefit of using primer for your walls is that it promotes the adhesion of the colored paint you apply later; In addition, it is extremely useful if the wall was previously painted a different color.

 2. Tempera paint

This type of paint comes in powder or paste form and needs to be mixed with water before being used. In general, it is not recommended for use on walls that will be exposed to moisture. Likewise, it is a type of paint that can be used for finishes, but unlike colored paints, it is not washable.

3. Primer paint

Primer paint can be considered a base paint and is generally used on recently plastered and sanded walls in order to reduce the porosity of the cement. Unlike tempera, primer paint can be used direct or diluted.

4. Acrylic paint

Acrylic paint is a type of paint that can be used both indoors and outdoors. The advantage of its use is that it is washable, making it also ideal for humid environments. As for its subtypes, we can find it in presentations: matte, satin and glossy.

 5. Synthetic paint

Unlike acrylic paints, these are oil-based, which allows for greater coverage. In general, they are an ideal option for environments that require greater resistance to humidity, such as kitchens or bathrooms.

 6. Latex paint

This type of paint is one of the most used for walls and ceilings; However, it must be taken into account that they are not waterproofing. On the other hand, it is an option resistant to friction, humidity, among other agents.

Don't forget to sand the wall before painting

Now that you know which wall paint you should choose according to your types of walls, we recommend that for a more professional painting, do not forget to sand the surface before painting. Use quality sandpaper for walls that works wet, dry or wet and dry as appropriate. With prior sanding, the wall will be level and the paint will adhere better to the surface. Use Norton sandpaper for this step!
